Last day of the last year in the first decade

I was able to quit my old job and steer my career back on the track it should be on and started working at Hirschfeld Fabrication in November. I got hired on with Makani Power as well and I'm trying to divide my time between the two. I'm back to being dirty and in pain on a daily basis. Loves it. I will now post at the very least every week starting 1.1.11, one of many changes for the new year. I fucking love new years, so much to look forward to in 2011. See you then....

not enough time in the damn day

i need to do more postings and do them regularly. how do people do this blogging and social media-ing? it's ridiculous, i barely have enough time for the basic fundamental life sustaining practices. life has recently been turned to 11. and it's fucking loud. i started running and cross training for 2010-2011 cyclocross. did my first 5k last weekend and i'm on the bike as much as possible. i have too many big projects, house renovation, electric beetle, vanagon interior, motorcycle, penguin sailboat, holy shit. it's out of control. on top of all that i have a second job working for Joel at Hirschfeld fab. building bike frames and cabinets for BART stations and other crazy metal work. i bit off so much. i envy those who have time to spare.

ship breaking

i found these guys breaking up a ship hull that was dredged from the oakland inner harbor. they were using a thermal-lance which burns iron rods that are held in a consumable iron pipe. oxygen is pumped through the tube and lit at the end with an oxyacetylene torch. these things are capable of temperatures of 7000-9000 F, melting through the steel of the bow and the cement ballast inside. they also have magnesium versions that get up to 14,000 F. they said they had pulled out tons of steel ingots the size of a mailbox at about 250 lbs each that also served as ballast.
they also had a wolf tied to a bulldozer.

oma

the brains of the operation

here's the zilla waiting to for a housing and installation. it controls the motor's output by taking the accelerator input signal and making electric magic. the main semiconductor fuse is to the left.

coming together

battery pack voltmeter installed and the speedo augmented with a "paktrakr" LCD readout where the old analog fuel gauge once was, just above the needle. It has 2 lines of text that are controlled by a mini toggle switch and a momentary selector button mounted in the dash. (pics of it actually functioning are en route to the blog) I just got a original steering wheel to replace the piece of shit mini wheel that came with the car. now one can actually see the dash.

You don't know about Goorville. You have never been there and you will never go there. I will expose some of the goings-on in and report from Goorville.

Thank you
